Riders maintaining a Perfect Commuting Year (PCY): Brucew, HannibalLecter, Recycled, Yippinyahoo
Welcome to 2009, another great year for Bike Journal commuter cyclists. So, how are you doing? Do you have any stories to share? What is motivating you to seek the benchmark of 100 commuting-days or the super-benchmark of 200?
This thread was started by Anquetil63 in 2006. He also started the Commuter Cycling Century club. This thead has inspired many of us to commute more than we ever dreamed was possible. In Anquetil63's words: "The Commuter Cycling Century has a simple goal......each member attempts to ride to and from work on at least 100 days in a 12-month period."
Previous annual CCCC threads: 2006, 2007, and 2008
Helpful hint for newcomers: When logging your commutes, be sure to set the "Ride Category" as "Commute". Then you can set up a filter (premier members only) to show only commuting rides---then just divide the number of rides by 2 and you have your commuting-days. This methods avoids counting day-by-day.
Last update on January 31, 2010 at 2010 hrs CST through post #2010-373. Total Riders = 80 Click on this link to see the table directly: CCCC Table in PDF format
Definitions: MDAS = Most Direct And Safe: The most direct and safe round-trip distance between your home and workplace. PCW = Perfect Commuting Week: Commuted by bike every day that you worked during a given week. 6/6, 5/5, 4/4, etc. By definition, you can't do any better than this. PCM = Perfect Commuting Month: The monthly equivalent of a PCW. PCY = Perfect Commuting Year: The annual equivalent of a PCW.

Chrispatoz logs the first commute of the year. Congratulations Chris. I suspect that the rest of us will be following in your footsteps tire tracks the rest of the year.

Backing-out vacations and holidays, I have only 198 scheduled workdays this year. Providing of course, that any staff and hours reductions caused by city budget woes don't strip me of some shifts. (They may close on Saturdays, for instance.)
On the other hand, I'm already subbing four extra days in January.
What I can say is that I plan to hit 100% again this year. It's only my work schedule that limits the days.

We have several CCCC riders that do mixed commutes using bikes, busses, and trains---Redsfan is one who comes to mind. Care to join us?

Two people at my office are mixed mode bike+bus commuters. They both do mixed mode on about 80-90 percent of their work days. They use Dahon folding bikes with internal gear rear hubs (instead of derailers) which is a cleaner and simpler drive train for folding bikes. This allows them to get on-off bus without messing around with the front bus bike carrier, or missing a bus if the front carrier is full (happens often in Orange County). I've seen people at Irvine Metrorail station with folding bikes, so you won't have a problem from any inland empire station going to El Monte.

GTD-I don't know if it matters or not, but my commute is 21 miles, not 19.
